Examining Nursing Specialties Responses

Responding to Classmate 1 Discussion 1

This is an interesting post. Becoming a nurse in the psychiatric field makes you a very important member of the health care system. Specializing as a psychiatric nurse means one gets the opportunity to manage and improve various mental health issues and the wellness of mental health patients. For a start, choosing a career path in the psychiatric field means you are making up for the shortage of mental health professionals in the United States. The United States is currently experiencing a shortage of specialized mental health professionals, creating mental health disparities with negative mental health outcomes, especially among underserved and disenfranchised populations (Mongelli et al., 2020). A major challenge for mental health nurses in practice that the research has identified is confusion among the nurses when serving a wide range of patients with varied mental issues as the practice demands individualized care (Clark et al., 2020).

Responding to Classmate 2 Discussion 2

This is a good post. Adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioners (AG-ACNPs) are important health care providers. AG-ACNPs have advanced education levels that enable them to provide healthcare services to diverse populations, from young adults to geriatric populations, in both the primary and acute care settings (Miller, 2019). However, the roles of AG-ACNPs differ within primary and acute care settings. The roles of AG-ACNPs in primary care settings focus on family care, providing clinic-based care to patients, and supporting health promotion.

On the other hand, the transition from family care to acute care for AG-ACNPs means they will focus on providing care to specific patients for specific health and medical problems and critical care in these settings (Hravnak et al., 2022). This can pose new challenges for AG-ACNPs who have been used to providing care within primary care settings. However, joining a professional nursing association can provide the necessary support from peers to achieve a professional transition into new care settings.
