New modes of transportation have reformed the tourism sector by improving travel speed, distance-travel capabilities, comfort level, and travel time. The accessibility to a tourist destination can be enhanced through the development of transport infrastructure or the connectivity between tourist facilities and the network. Therefore, the transport industry is the backbone of the tourism industry.
Analysis
According to Ajagunna et al. (2017), transportation is a precondition for travel, thus driving the tourism industry by facilitating the movement of tourists to various destinations, locally or globally, and back to their place of origin. Therefore, there is a symbiotic relationship between tourism and transportation in regions where transportation is developed as a functional or practical act founded on modes or a mode of transportation to achieve the goal of moving to different destinations. Ajagunna et al. (2017) argue that transportation as tourism arises when the form of transportation is fundamental to the overall tourism experience, such as traveling by rail to view scenery or cruising to enjoy the feeling of traveling by water. The tourism industry in Canada includes various complementary business lines, including transportation and accommodations.
Established tourist destinations such as Canada attract many global tourists. The evolution of the transport industry in the country has improved the movement of people from different countries into the country through air or water. The country has an established air network serviced by various airlines operating globally. According to Statistics Canada (2022), inbound visitors in Canada are non-residents arriving in the country by air. The availability of convenient, comfortable, and low-cost transportation in the country has facilitated the growth of the Canadian tourism industry into one of the rapidly growing industries in the country’s economy. The development is attributed to the cooperation between travel agents, transportation companies, car rental agencies, and hotel operators. The industry includes tour operators’ tour packages and travel agents’ promotions. Some operators, such as travel agencies and hotels, are subsidiaries of airlines operating in the Canadian airline industry.
The growth of the tourism industry in Canada has led to the development of the short-term rental market in the country. According to Törnberg (2021), a short-term rental is a furnished space for a short time. Cameron et al. (2022) argue that many Québec, Vancouver, and Toronto house operators have invested in short-term rentals targeting tourists. These short-term rental houses increase convenience for tourists, especially those traveling as a family, because they can stay together in hotels where they may be placed in different rooms. The road network in Canada has also increased the demand for recreational vehicles, mainly hired by families or a group of people who want to tour the country by road. The growth in the Canadian tourism industry is anticipated to continue as the country continues to improve airline and railway transportation to facilitate the movement of people across the country.

The tourism industry plays a vital role in developing a country’s economy. Therefore, it is essential to improve supporting sectors such as transportation, which facilitates the movement of international and domestic tourists. The tourism industry also impacts the accommodation sector due to the demand for accommodation when tourists need to spend a night or some days away from their homes. The current trend in Canadian tourist accommodation is short-term rentals, which offer affordable and convenient stays.
