Evidence-Based Project Evaluation – Nursing Shortage

Evidence-Based Project Evaluation – Nursing Shortage

My evidence-based project is on the nursing shortage. The nursing shortage is a global concern. It decreases the quality of healthcare services discharged by nurses. Furthermore, it leads to job dissatisfaction resulting from stress and burnout. It is important to optimize the ratio of nurses to patients. This can be achieved by increasing the nursing workforce. The project proposes policies that aim at increasing the number of nursing training institutions in all states. The other objective is to expand the capacity of existing nursing training institutions. The third objective is to increase the number of accredited fellowships provided to graduates.

The evidence-based project has various independent variables. An independent variable causes a manipulation or change that can impact the dependent variable (Losh, 2017). The first independent variable is the number of new nursing training institutions constructed in each state. The second independent variable is the number of nursing training facilities whose capacity has been expanded. This will focus on the capacity of training institutions that existed before the evidence-based project. The other independent variable is the number of accredited fellowships provided to graduates. The three independent variables are important because they determine the solution to the nursing shortage. An increment in the number of training facilities, an expansion of their capacity, and an increase in the number of fellowships will increase the number of trained and registered nurses. These nurses are key to solving the problem of nursing shortage.

A dependent variable is the one being measured. The dependent variable is the effect, and it is determined by the independent variable (Pandey, 2020). The dependent variable in this evidence-based project is the number of nurses in the workforce (a low number suggests a nursing shortage). This variable is determined by the increment in the number of nursing training facilities, expansion of existing training facilities, and the number of fellowships provided. An increase in fellowships will increase nurse specialists and the number of preceptors. Expansion and creation of new training facilities will increase the number of trained and registered nurses. This will help to solve the nursing shortage.
