Evaluation of Project and Plan for Sustainability
The project was able to explore mental health stigma as a significant factor in influencing mental health-seeking behaviors among racial and ethnic minority groups. The interdisciplinary approach employed helped develop a more comprehensive understanding of mental health stigma as a barrier to seeking mental health care. Also, there was local community integration in the project. However, the project faced limits in access to community-specific data, and some participants were unwilling to respond to the study questions due to experienced and internalized stigma: Evaluation of Project and Plan for Sustainability.
The project has been evaluated using quantitative evaluation tools, including surveys and questionnaires, which utilized scales to measure mental health stigma and mental health-seeking behaviors on the basis of social and demographic data such as race, level of education, level of income, and gender. The data was analyzed using Minitab 20 Statistical Software (Okagbue et al., 2021). The findings from this project contribute to the DNP Essentials by promoting ethical research, creating awareness of mental health stigma in minority groups, use of evidence to design patient-centered and targeted care, and the need for interdisciplinary team collaborations in providing care in culturally diverse settings.
The project will be driven by myself and the local hospital team once completed. The success of the project and its sustainability will be achieved through long-term interdisciplinary collaboration between the hospital staff and the community. The project has the potential to influence healthcare policy by providing evidence on mental health disparities among racial/ethnic minorities and the need to develop and implement racially-targeted mental health programs.
The dissemination of the project’s findings will be verbal and in written forms as well. All methods of dissemination will abide by the Know Your Audience guidelines. The know-your-audience approach helps tailor communication to specific audiences and supports deeper conversations on the subject matter (McCarthy & Grant, 2024). The project will be continued through scholarship and the use of more community-specific data.
