Action, superhero, science fiction, adventure, and fantasy films have always intrigued me. Action films are my favourite because they entail protagonists or protagonists cast into various events, which essentially have violent scenes, physical feats, extended fights, adrenaline-rushing chases, and rescues. What makes action films so riveting is that the protagonists of these films often have to rise against overwhelming odds stacked against them to triumph over their adversaries. Also, through the advancements in computer technology, films have evolved in relation to computer-generated imagery. As such, I am able to relish several genre aspects in one film. For instance, in the Suicide Squad 2021 Sequel, there is action, adventure, science fiction, superhero, and fantasy. With this notion in mind, it suffices to maintain that this is an exploration of the notion of the kinds of films I like the most, what attracted me to the Suicide Squad 2021 Sequel, my expectations for the movie, and what generated the expectations. Also, it would touch on expectations from the movie, and prior knowledge that would bolster my appreciation of the film. Also, this is an exploration of the notion of whether the film met my expectations or not. This is in addition to the identification of some characters, places or actions in the movie and my cultural experience.
Foremost, it is imperative to note that the Suicide Squad 2021 Sequel is riveting I know it will possess plenty of action, humour, superheroism, and the feeling of dread. One cannot help but fear what may happen to my favourite characters as they walk into an area and situation that could beat them. While going into this movie, I expect that I hope that my favourite characters do not fail or go through a tragic personal loss as they go about their business. In other films that I have watched, characters die or are made to go through harrowing events like family tragedies to bring out a better-forged version of themselves and take on better roles. Also, I expect that the movie would be as interesting because movies that fall under this genre are a reminder of the superhero nature that we all have, even though we often think we do not have. Besides, characters have superhuman capabilities that allow them to trounce the average human being, but they have a foe that they must also dread although they are powerful people themselves. Superhero films today have evolved to depict superheroes as having formidable enemies, who serve the purpose of bringing a feeling of anticipation for the action that might take place when these two forces meet. I love the characters in superhero films because they have to be evidently different from normal humans. For example, Harley Quinn has “craziness” around her that nobody would have and be of a sound mind. Her craziness, speed, and agility help her defeat her opponents with ease. Bloodsport is essentially a mercenary equipped with an advanced suit through technology, creating diverse gadgets and transforming weapons. With an ironic name, the Peacemaker is extremely violent and would not hesitate to use violence to achieve his goal, and King Shark has a weird body that is fish-like and eats human flesh. Besides, my understanding of the superhero genre bolstered my expectations of the movie due to certain characteristics that they uniquely have.
Also, it is vital to understand that after watching this movie, I hope to be entertained through the humorous movie aspects through characters such as the Peacemaker. I expect that the movie will express in a subtle way the steps made through advancements in technology. I hope it will portray a scenario whereby technological advancements can be put to good use. The fact that there is a section of people who believe that advancement in technology will bolster the fears of the technological information that could be weaponized from falling into the wrong hands. Through its characters, I expect that the movie will portray a human side in the film, whereby we could all learn from it. In this case, the characters will be expected to make certain personal sacrifices for the greater good. Some characters go on hazardous missions for the sake of their family members. After watching numerous classics, and genres, I developed a desire to watch films that did not have many computers generated to have the fine and informed interpretation of these films. As a superhero film, understanding the history of the films and their evolution helps one appreciate the notion of advancement in technology to have a fine interpretation of these arts of film and be in a position to enjoy more.
When watching movies, I have always been riveted by the role of characters in films that I watch. By so saying, these characters often display skills and prowess in a more supernatural way that reminds the audience of the human intellectual and physical weaknesses through these films. As such, it has always been my desire to have a keen understanding of the characters, and through their behaviour, I can identify with them, be in a position to see myself in them, and have the capacity to mentally ask myself what I would do if had such powers as they, would I save the world or be selfish and keep it to myself and use it for my own purposes?
Also, the places and actions in the movie are a reminder to me of the human lack of skill in its perfection. It makes me marvel that in case there happens to be another race of species that have the physical and intellectual prowess of the superheroes in the films we watch, then there is no way humans could ever beat other species in the galaxy with the weaknesses we have as humans.
Further, various characters in this film have challenged and surpassed my appreciation of movies that fall under this genre. Harley Quinn’s relationship with the Clown Prince of Crime reminds the audience that superheroes are not entirely faultless and could fail in their relationships like normal humans. This factor bolstered my identification with the film. Besides, after being injected with a special antidote, she becomes immune to various chemical attacks and gains more durability and strength. These factors portray women in a way that shows strength and ability to fight well in hand-to-hand combat with numerous men and be able to beat them in various scenes without much of a scratch on her person suggesting that she is a formidable and independent woman. She is the embodiment of how women can use strength to fend off offenders on their person. Although depicted in a gritty manner, Quinn reminds the audience that one can use strength and durability to stand up for themselves. Having previously been a normal human being helps the audience identify with her person, even through her failing relationship with the Clown Prince.
Still, through the character Bloodsport, one cannot get enough of a powerful suit that essentially makes him the best weapon. However, inasmuch as he represents violence in the film, the audience is able to appreciate the fact that he would not have joined this mission, where he is in mortal danger if he had a choice. But he chose his family and its safety first. By so doing, to prevent the incarceration of his daughter, he joins the Task Force. It is a reminder to the audience and myself of the notion of whether I would walk willingly through a dangerous situation to protect my family. One finds themselves wishing that the character does not fall to the enemy’s attacks and meet his daughter again after the dreadful encounters are met.
Doubtless, this movie did support my way of thinking. It has proved my thinking about superheroes. It supported my assumption that we need not have superhuman abilities to be superheroes in this normal world. Anyone who has made a sacrifice for their family’s sake, such as going to far-off places of work and meeting the family way less frequently to provide for the family, is a hero. Also, the Marines today take fire to keep us safe in our homes. The heroes in Suicide Squad are a reminder of how much power we have. We can be superheroes in various ways in society.
