Enhancing Professional Presence- Creating and Optimizing Your LinkedIn Profile

Communicating a business brand on social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, is essential to increase brand visibility in the competitive and dynamic industry environment. Today, many organizations are deviating from the traditional print and broadcast forms of business ads to market products and increase brand awareness (Sisson, 2014). Instead, companies are increasingly embracing platforms, such as LinkedIn, to connect with other business professionals with an aim to increase the awareness of the products they offer (Thill & Bovee, 2020). I created a LinkedIn account to connect with other professionals in the business context as I aspire to own my human resources management (HRM) firm in the future. I wanted to connect with other human resources experts in the human HRM industry. I aspire to use the knowledge and skills I will learn from these professionals to increase the brand visibility of my consulting firm and to attract clients.

I did not have a LinkedIn account; hence, when I visited the site, I was prompted to open a new account. The site is user-friendly and offers helpful suggestions on where to fill in which information to expedite the sign-up process. The first process LinkedIn prompted me to complete was to input my email address and preferred password (Caploff, 2016). After successfully completing this step, the site prompted me to prove I was not a robot and then requested me to submit my area of expertise. I enrolled as a student and was prompted to fill in details, such as the degree I am undertaking, my postal code, my full name, and my start and end date of undertaking my higher education (Unlocking the power of LinkedIn, n.d.). LinkedIn then alerted me that it had sent an activation email that I should click on to access my account, which I did successfully. I am happy that I am now an official LinkedIn member and will be able to see how business owners communicate using the social media platform. My LinkedIn profile link is https://www.linkedin.com/feed/.
