Enhancing Nursing Practice through Course Competencies- Achievements and Insights
This course was both informative and eye-opening. Throughout the different core areas, I was able to learn new things and will implement the same in my work practice. The various course competencies were achieved as follows:
Identify multi-dimensional nursing care strategies for clients with reproductive system disorders.
I achieved this competency in module one. I chose to write a brochure on cervical cancer. It was interesting to learn everything about cervical cancer. It is a reproductive disorder that happens in women, and its most common symptom is pain in the pelvis, especially during sexual intercourse. I learned how nurses could take care of patients undergoing treatment and educate them about the sickness. I also learned about the diagnosis, procedures, and treatment of cervical cancer.
Determine appropriate multi-dimensional nursing interventions for clients with disorders of the urinary system.
I learned about the urinary system and its nursing interventions in module three. There was a lot of exciting content in module three. I knew that for a nurse to achieve a multi-dimensional intervention for such a patient, they have to perform several assessments (Doenges et al., 2019). The assessments include psychosocial, cultural, and nutritional assessments. The results from the evaluations determine the kind of intervention that the client will receive.
Apply strategies for safe, effective, multi-dimensional nursing practice when providing care for clients with upper respiratory disorders.
I learned the several strategies of safe and effective multi-dimensional nursing practice for patients with upper respiratory disorders in module four. I learned that the nurse should perform a respiratory assessment, a physical and history assessment. The patient’s airway should always be patent. The nurse should teach the client how to take care of themselves. I learned the clinical manifestations and interpreting reports from the respiratory assessment. If the patient undergoes surgery, there are things that the nurse should be keen to check to ensure a safe recovery for the patient (Dewitt et al., 2016). I learned that the environment for the patient should be humidified and that the patient should wear a mask when necessary.
Compare strategies for safe, effective multi-dimensional nursing practice when providing care for clients with lower respiratory disorders.
Module five, pulmonary education, helped me achieve this competency. I wrote about how to provide safe and effective care to a bronchitis patient. I learned how to engage a client, take care of them and make them an individualized care plan. Self-care is essential for bronchitis patients. I learned the different interventions and care plans for lower respiratory system disorders.
Prioritize nursing care strategies for clients with cardiovascular disorders.
In module 8, we made presentations on cardiovascular diseases. My presentation was on cardiac arrest. Through the assignment, I learned nursing care strategies for cardiac arrest patients. I learned that the client must be educated on how to take care of themselves and prevent the reoccurrence of cardiac arrest. I learned the medical interventions necessary for the patients.
Integrate multi-dimensional nursing interventions when caring for clients with hematological disorders.
Lastly, in module 9, we covered different hematological disorders, with this competency being achieved in this module. In this module’s assignment, I discussed multi-dimensional nursing interventions for an anaemia patient. The nurse has to teach the client how to live with the disease, the form of diagnosis to be done, and how to prevent bleeding and infection (Gulanick & Myers, 2011). I learned that the client should always be hydrated and all the medical interventions have to be done to avoid future complications.
Impacts on Nursing Practise
The information I gained in this course will be very important in caring for patients. As a future nurse, I intend to utilize this knowledge in providing exceptional patient care. I have also learned the importance of working as a team in a healthcare setting. Each person has something valuable to contribute toward the effective and efficient care of patients.
