Discussion – Managerial Competence
Recognition of contribution is one of the areas of managerial competency that I would like to improve. The focus in the area is on the realization of other people’s gifts in the company’s operations. As a leader, the direction needs to be beyond self-establishment (Kouzes and Posner, 2017). There is a need to consider the influence that other people have on the operations of the company. Each member of the management team has a role to play. The functions are performed in different capacities, and to some extent, the management may fail to appreciate the contribution.
The reason for selecting the areas is so that I can improve the level of performance of every member. The focus is to make team members realize that they all have a role to play in ensuring there is success. Management is not easy, especially when there are rejections and laggards (Kouzes and Posner, 2017). Improving recognition of contribution is a way of dealing with rejection. The aim is to ensure that every member has been fully compensated for their role in ensuring there is effective running of operations.
Recognition of contribution can be done through several strategies. One is through the various compensation strategies. The best way to realize others’ assistance is by making them feel like a part of the team and company. It entails commissions and gifts to an employee of the year (Kouzes and Posner, 2017). The area is more of the interactions that I will have with other members of the organization. Lastly, recognition of contribution is a way of saying thank you to all the employees. It is one of the strategic ways that managers can use to reduce the rate of employee turnover.
