Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of collaborating with physician organizations when pursuing FPA legislation

When developing any type of healthcare-related policy, it is critical to involve all of the major players in the healthcare sector at every stage of the policy-making process. Working with authoritative physician organizations is critical because their perspectives on legislation governing the full scope of advanced nurse practitioners’ practice can be quite valuable (Berwick, 2020). Collaboration with medical associations such as the American Medical Association increases the likelihood of comprehensive practice legislation being approved by Congress. Congress cannot pass any healthcare-related legislation unless it first obtains the American Medical Association’s opinion on the proposed legislation. Congress is widely regarded as a pioneer in the field of healthcare policy due to the diversity of backgrounds and expertise that its members bring to the table.

Collaboration with physician groups to expand registered nurses’ scope of practice is also likely to increase patients’ receptivity to FPA legislation, should it be implemented. Many patients trust medical organizations like the American Medical Association because of the work they have put in over the years to establish their credibility. The main goal of the American Medical Association is to improve public healthcare delivery, which will increase public trust in the organization (Maddox et al., 2019). Collaboration with a physician organization, such as the American Medical Association, will significantly increase public trust in advanced nurse practitioners who will be broadening their scope of practice. Collaboration with physician legislation will aid in the development of comprehensive practice authority, which is required for the development of extensive practice authority.

Working with medical groups to pass a full practice authorization, on the other hand, has several drawbacks that have the potential to make the legislation less effective. The primary disadvantage of working with physician organizations is that they have actively supported and opposed the expansion of nurse practitioner’s scope of practice through full practice authority. Only physicians, according to the American Medical Association and the majority of physician groups, have the necessary training to provide safe and effective care (Brom et al., 2018). This is because, in comparison to nurse practitioners, doctors receive more extensive and prolonged training to perfect their expertise. As a result, nurse practitioners are unable to provide patients with high-quality care comparable to that provided by physicians (Spetz et al., 2019). Physician associations, on the other hand, have continued to lobby and fight against the passage of full practice legislation in other parts of the country where FPA legislation has been proposed.
