Hello and welcome to this presentation. In this presentation, we will discuss systems thinking, highlighting complex healthcare systems theories and their relevance in the broad care landscape. Foremost, complex healthcare theories are theoretical frameworks that view care systems as dynamic with many interconnected components. One of the complex healthcare systems that resonates with me is the complex adaptive system theory: DHA 711 Week 8 Video
The complex adaptive system theory posits that the healthcare system is made up of different components that are interconnected and interact to influence the behavior of the whole system. Per the theory, players within the healthcare landscape remain interdependent. Likewise, an action on one of the players can have a far-reaching effect on the entire system. The interconnectedness of the stakeholders within the care environment underlines the adaptive nature and nonlinearity of healthcare systems.
The theoretical postulates of complex adaptive systems have continually resonated with my career. As a medical records clerk, I have acknowledged the interconnectedness of players within the care systems. As a clerk, I learned that how I execute my roles influenced the efficiency of various care processes. Likewise, caregivers’ accountability in their respective roles played a part in the overall outcome of the therapeutic processes.
The experiences and insights from the course have widened my perspectives on healthcare organizations. I have learned that healthcare systems are adaptive systems where all stakeholders interact to determine the clinical and health outcomes of the patients. Subsequently, caregivers must employ a collaborative front in tackling various clinical complexities.
To further my understanding of complex healthcare systems theories, I plan to allocate more time to learning about them. By doing extra reading and watching tutorials on systems thinking and complex adaptive systems, I will be able to expand my understanding of the theories. Likewise, I plan to inculcate the learned concepts into my scholarly leadership roles by being a better communicator and engaging my peers in joint decision-making processes. Thank you.
