Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
Two dissemination strategies I would be most inclined to use are peer-reviewed publications and social media. Peer-reviewed journals enable independent peer review, whose purpose is to ensure the report’s credibility, accuracy, and quality (Ravinetto & Singh, 2022). During the dissemination of my research findings on using technology for childhood obesity management, I would use reputable journals in nursing and medicine. Social media, on the other hand, helps researchers get information to many people and makes it easier for people to retrieve it. Using social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn may help promote EBP findings on childhood obesity, spark discussions, and reach a broader audience (Ravinetto & Singh, 2022). Further, I would be less inclined to use organizational-level presentations as a dissemination strategy. Even though they may be beneficial in knowledge sharing within a particular setting, they may limit the audience reached compared to using other methods like social media and journals (Ashcraft et al., 2020).
Barriers I may encounter when using social media and peer-reviewed journals include limited access and visibility and information overload. First, when using peer-reviewed journals, getting acceptance and attaining visibility among many publications can be challenging (Roberts-Lewis et al., 2023). Furthermore, when using social media platforms, it may be difficult to stand out among the large volume of content. This barrier can be bypassed by collaborating with experienced researchers and content creators who are familiar with journal publications and social media to help enhance acceptance and visibility (Roberts-Lewis et al., 2023).
The second barrier is information overload, which is common in social media. Competition with other forms of content may make it difficult for visibility on various platforms. To address this barrier, I would seek the help of influencers and people with large social media followings to help amplify the reach of research. Also, making visually attractive summaries of the research findings may help catch and retain the attention of the audience (Roberts-Lewis et al., 2023). By using these strategies and addressing possible barriers, my research findings may be disseminated effectively to a wider audience and contribute to knowledge advancement in my field.
