Data Collection Proposal- Alcohol Use Among Adolescents

Data Collection Proposal- Alcohol Use Among Adolescents

My research topic is: what are the main causes of alcohol use in adolescents in the United States? The method appropriate for collecting information for my research is the qualitative method. Qualitative methods involve the collection and analysis of non-numerical data to comprehend opinions, experiences, and concepts (Jacobsen, 2021). My research topic involves understanding a concept. The concept under investigation is why adolescents use alcohol in the United States. This method will help gather comprehensive insights into this problem. The qualitative methods can include interviews and open-ended and closed-ended questions (Jacobsen, 2021).

The method of analysis that will be used is regression analysis. A regression analysis aims to comprehend the relationship between one or more independent variables and the dependent variable (Jacobsen, 2021). An independent variable predicts the value of an outcome variable, while a dependent variable is the output of the variation under study. My research topic is the causes of alcohol use among adolescents. Multiple independent variables will be analyzed to determine the dependent variable, which is alcohol use in adolescents. Regression analysis will help analyze the strength of the relationship between the independent and dependent variables and help model the future relationship between the two.

When determining research participants in a qualitative study, the aim is to ensure an adequate number of participants to ensure significant and valid results. A larger sample size will be better than a smaller one since it will yield a sample mean close to the true population value (Jacobsen, 2021). The population under study is homogenous. It is only adolescents. A more homogenous population requires a smaller sample size (Vasileiou et al., 2018). The sample size for my research topic will be 30.
