County-Level Demographics-Miami-Dade County
Miami-Dade County in Florida is a county with clear county-level demographics. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, two million, one thousand seven hundred seven hundred sixty-seven people are living in Miami-Dade County. The county’s median income is $59,044, and 86.1% of inhabitants are covered by health insurance (U.S. Census Bureau, n.d.); however, the map does not show Miami-Dade County’s poverty rate. Another essential demographic information is the entire number of households: 963,477. Compared to Florida State, Miami-Dade County has a larger population than the state average and a somewhat higher median income and proportion of individuals with health insurance; however, it would be easier to evaluate the county’s demographics by knowing its poverty rate.
Life Expectancy Data
According to statistics from the NCHS Statistics Visualization Gallery, the tract in Miami-Dade County, Florida, with the highest life expectancy for the year 2019 is 79.0, while the tract with the lowest life expectancy for the year 2018 is 78.9 (“U.S. State Life Expectancy at Birth by Sex, 2019”, 2022). Both the state and national averages are slightly higher than these similar rates.
Several demographic factors may play a role in life expectancy. Racial and ethnic differences, socioeconomic level, access to healthcare, and lifestyle choices are among the demographic elements that may impact life expectancy in Miami-Dade County. African Americans and Hispanics comprise a sizable portion of the county’s population, linked to shorter life expectancies than the white population. Lower socioeconomic levels also limit access to resources for a healthy lifestyle and effective healthcare.
This information emphasizes the significance of addressing social determinants of health, such as socioeconomic position and access to healthcare, to improve health outcomes, especially for my future practice. Additionally, it highlights the importance of offering specialized assistance and resources to communities with shorter life expectancies, such as those with a mixed racial and cultural composition.
