Conflict Climate

A conflict climate refers to a situation or a psychological atmosphere as perceived by individuals. A conflict climate can give rise to nurturing and harming results (Cahn & Abigail, 2014). I once encountered a conflict climate in a work environment with my colleagues. Essentially, one of the colleagues had developed a habit of absenteeism and sometimes reported late to work. The absenteeism persisted for some time and caused distress on other employees, who had to undertake extra duties to cover his space. The conflict climate was primarily a result of the absenteeism behavior. In addition, a continued behavior of late reporting to the workplace fueled the conflict climate. Different ways in which conflicts occurred were through colleagues being resentful of him. Every other time they complained about helping him earn a salary that he had not worked for. The work environment became harmful because there was occasionally incomplete work in their department.

The departmental manager, alongside the human resource management, observed the situation and crafted a means of turning it into a nurturing environment. First, they assessed the extent to which the climate had worsened due to the employee’s behaviors. Notably, this was done by asking the employee’s colleagues to express how they had been affected by the climate in writing. Second, the management held a meeting with the subject employee to discover what was affecting him. They established that he had family problems, and the organization took responsibility for helping him address them. Finally, the employee stopped the absenteeism behavior, and a teamwork spirit was nurtured through the management effort. As a result, there was a complete turn of events, and the department worked perfectly. When employees know that management cares about them, they work productively (Mbegu, 2018). Additionally, the situation becomes a nurturing environment.
