Community and Culture Assessment

Community and Culture Assessment

Healthy community characteristics

A community’s health is influenced by both the environment in which its members live and by the genetic makeup of those people. A healthy community has access to a good education, as educated people enjoy a better quality of life than their contemporaries. Secondly, it spontaneously integrates into its surroundings. Communities more in tune with nature have less exposure to hazardous drugs and contamination of their immediate surroundings. Moreover, it has access to medical treatment and wellness programs (Yip, 2020). This gives sick people access to life-saving therapies and makes it easier for locals to receive preventative care. Additionally, it has access to good nutrition and values wellness, health, and fitness.

Nurses’ advocacy for accountability and professionalism

When conducting cultural or community assessments, nurses advocate for accountability and professionalism by working within their practice scope as it enhances patients’ healthcare outcomes and experiences. They should be willing to accept their ethical role in good and bad situations. They must follow the guidelines and procedures of the nursing practice. Besides, they must listen to their supervisors when required. They should apply evidence-based care in their assessment (Boucher & Johnson, 2021). Moreover, they should complete their assigned tasks as agreed and set and follow professional and individual goals.

Nurses’ cultivation of cultural sensitivity

Being culturally sensitive is necessary due to today’s rapidly shifting cultural landscape. Nurses can achieve this by being somewhat aware of the need for culturally competent treatment. They should learn about the cultures of their patients to avoid making judgments about those cultures. Besides, they should develop rapport and trust with all their patients, regardless of race or ethnicity (Boucher & Johnson, 2021). They can overcome language obstacles, inform patients their patients about medical procedures, and when speaking with patients, they should use active listening techniques.

Conducting a community and cultural assessment

To conduct a community assessment, I will first identify the study community by defining its population, place, values, and attitudes. I will then determine the scope of the study depending on the community’s available resources. I will evaluate the assets for the assessment, such as people, funding, and policies. Making connections with community leaders will be the next step. I will then collect my data through interviews and surveys. Afterward, I will analyze the data, present the findings, and develop a program based on the community’s needs.
