Characteristics of God – Christian Worldview
People of different religions believe in the existence of a higher being. In most cultures, the higher being is referred to as the creator of all things. Among Christians, they believe in God as the creator of all things. Accordingly, there are various attributes and characteristics of God that Christians believe in, including omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient (Bishop & Perszyk, 2016).
The first characteristic of God is omnipresence. Christians believe God is omnipresent, meaning that God is present everywhere at all times. Illustrating that God is a higher being that exists everywhere at a given time. The second characteristic of God is omnipotent. Christians believe God is all-powerful, ascribing him as a higher being with unlimited power. The third characteristic of God is omniscience. Christians believe God is all-knowing, illustrating that God knows all things (Bishop & Perszyk, 2016). These characteristics represent the perceptions of Christians of God as a higher being and the traits that influence God’s relationship with human beings (Davis et al., 2013).
These characteristics of God are significant to Christians. Their importance influences the perception of Christians on their thoughts and behaviors (Davis et al., 2013). The trait of God’s omnipresence indicates that God is present where every Christian is. Subsequently, their behavior should aim at glorifying God by maintaining their morals. The trait of God’s omnipotent indicates that God is powerful enough to help Christians in times of difficulty, such as chronic illnesses. Therefore, this trait gives Christians a source of hope and faith in times of trouble. The trait of God’s omniscience illustrates that God is aware of all things, including thoughts. Subsequently, this trait influences Christian’s way of thinking and decision-making. This is because, despite other human beings being unaware, God is aware of the choices and outcomes of the choices. Therefore, these characteristics influence the beliefs, behavior, and conduct of Christians.
