Many medical errors can be attributed to the shortage of nurses within hospitals. In order to achieve improved clinical outcomes, significant changes need to be made. Failure to make change is a recipe for failure. Nurses are the right change agents since they are in a better position to implement change. Nurses are much closer to patients than other medical professionals. More nurses with the appropriate skills need to be hired by hospital management to ensure that patients get the best care (Haddad et al., 2020). A change proposal to address nurse shortages is necessary.
A healthcare setting consists of a number of stakeholders who play a vital role in the implementation of the change proposal. Internal stakeholders, which comprise the facility and healthcare setting team, and external stakeholders, such as groups and organizations outside the healthcare setting, are key to implementing change (Boaz et al., 2018). This change proposal aims to create an initiative that will increase the staffing of nurses in hospitals. This will improve patient safety, and the needs of patients will be met.
Internal stakeholders include healthcare professionals, administrators, and other employees. Health care professionals, including nurses, have the responsibility of translating evidence into practice while according the highest quality care to patients. The administrators of the health facility have a key role in ensuring that they facilitate the adoption of the proposed change through the establishment of suitable guidelines (Jonas et al., 2017). The cooperation of both the healthcare professionals and the management team is critical in implementing and realizing the desired change.
External stakeholders comprise individuals or organizations outside the healthcare setting, governments, and other key players. These institutions are tasked with the responsibility of providing the necessary resources required in the implementation of the desired change (Buerhaus et al.,2017). Extra funds would translate into hiring more nurses and addressing the issue of shortage of nurses. Facilitation of both training and recruitment of more nursing staff by governments would go a long way in addressing the issue of nursing shortage and translate to the provision of quality health care to patients.
Securing the support of these stakeholders is not easy, and I would use several channels to gain their trust and support. The use of media platforms, including broadcast media, social media platforms, and other media forms, would go a long way in acquiring support from the various stakeholders (de Brun et al., 2017). Other avenues, including seminars, conferences, and other events that facilitate the interaction of the various stakeholders, would be key in harboring cooperation and facilitating support.
In conclusion, patients should have a say in the quality of care they get when in health care settings. Patients will benefit more from this change as the number of patients being served by a single nurse will greatly reduce once the issue of nursing shortage is addressed. This will result in faster service in hospitals, quality care provision, better outcomes, and better experiences for the patient.
