Quality Tools Capstone Project

Quality Tools

Quality tools are any strategies or techniques used to ensure quality in the production process or operations management. Businesses can use a wide array of quality tools to monitor and correct their quality management to produce the best possible products for their customers. An example of a quality tool that can be used in total quality management (TQM) is stratification.

Stratification

Stratification, a run chart, is a tool used to group data into meaningful groups (Mitra, 2016). Once data has been grouped, the different stratified segments are compared to determine significant quality issues that are affecting the production process (Ross, 2017). Examples of groups may include machines connected to a given problem, people connected to a quality issue, or process areas connected to a quality issue.

Tool Used at Zara

At Zara, control charts are commonly used as tools of TQM. A control chart tracks the value of a process in a given time period. This is a great tool for tracking variation in the value created in the production process. Therefore, it is a good tool for identifying and dealing with a quality issue in its early stages (Reid & Sanders, 2016). Therefore, this helps Zara to correct quality issues to ensure the delivery of quality products to its customers. Using a different tool might significantly affect the quality management process for the company. For example, if the company changes to a stratification tool, it may be unable to identify problems in time for correction. The stratification strategy is best for identifying the source of a problem once a quality issue has been identified. Therefore, it should be applied with other tools that track the issues before detection.
