Business Requirement Document and Functional Specification Document

Business Requirement Document and Functional Specification Document

Business Requirement Document (BRD) and functional specification document (FSD) are important business documents that business analysts should prepare. A business requirement document is a document that describes the business requirements of the process or the product and the intended result expected from the product (Business Analyst, 2020). BRD seeks to find business solutions. On the other hand, a functional specification document (FSD) is a document that describes the intended behavior of the system. This behavior includes the input, the output, the properties, and data (Business Analyst, 2020).  FSD is responsible for defining how the system will achieve the requirements by outlining the functionality. Our assignment writing help is at affordable prices to students of all academic levels and disciplines.

Some of the BRD elements that differ from FSD are BRD, the project background, the requirement scope, business goals and objectives, interface requirements, etc. FSD, on the other hand, contains constraints, dependencies, product context, performance usability security, and more (Business Analyst, 2020).  All the components make BRD and FSD different. Thus, BRD aims to find solutions, while FSD aims to check the intended behavior of the entire system.

Agile methodology is defined as a people-focused approach to software development that tends to respond to the changing world. Agile methodology is centered on self-organization, short delivery time, and adaptive planning (Altvater, 2017). The agile methodology aims to facilitate continuous improvement in quality with the aid of tools like extreme programming and scrum. Agile development methods differ from BRD and FSD since it is a software program, while the other two are just documents that guide business analysts on how to carry out their analysis. While BRD and FSD aim to guide business analysts, the agile development method aims to facilitate continuous improvement in planning (Altvater, 2017).  Every business organization needs to plan how it is supposed to carry out continuous improvement to enable the organization to match the dynamics in the business world.
