One reason why an individual who has never used drugs in their life might refuse a drug test at work is privacy concerns. Ethically, individuals have a right to privacy and autonomy over their personal information. Requiring drug tests without a compelling reason violates this right and can create a culture of distrust between employers and employees. Even if an individual may not have such worries as they have never used drugs before, taking such a stand would be about solidarity among the employees to ensure that their coworkers, who may be users, would not be subjected to such measures.

Secondly, an individual may refuse a drug test due to the legal implications associated with drug testing, particularly if the individual resides in a region with strict privacy laws or if there are concerns about the legality of the testing process itself. Even if they are not users, people can protest drug tests that are illegal. Besides, in some jurisdictions, there may be laws protecting employees from invasive or unjustified drug testing practices. Thus, ethical employers have a duty to ensure that their practices align with legal requirements and respect the rights of their employees.
