The global issue I selected is the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). Further research in the field of artificial intelligence is required to address emerging issues in the technological field. Today, humans and computers generate more data than humans can process. That calls for the need to conduct more research and improve artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is applicable in many fields, including medicine, fraud detection, and virtual assistance, among other areas. For instance, AI enables businesses to interact with their customers via an AI-enabled chatbot. Human intervention may be needed if artificial intelligence is not improved to solve complex customer problems. Based on the growing application of artificial intelligence, there is a need to augment computer data with human insights to enable AI to solve complex problems.
A segment of the population that AI most impacts is online shoppers. Today, most businesses have shifted their operations to online platforms, enabling consumers globally to order products online (Bawack et al., 2022). However, it is common for global consumers to have post-sales complaints and inquiries about the products they order. That calls for manufacturers to comply with global standards (Bhargava, 2006). For instance, a customer may be unable to use a smart television ordered online, hence the need for automated solutions. AI goes a long way in providing the required solutions.
The article by Jiang et al. (2017) is a peer-reviewed scholarly source relevant to this topic. Jiang et al. (2017) delve into the application of AI in the medical field. In the US alone, AI-enabled electrodiagnosis has been applied in 1000 patient cases. Also, the figures show that AI diagnostic imaging has been successfully applied in 3000 cases. That shows that although AI is a somewhat novel development, it is gaining momentum in the medical field.
