Applications of Information Technology in Modern-day Organizations
Information technology is gaining dominance in the modern corporate world. According to Turban et al. (2018), companies are gradually embracing information technology due to digitizing operations such as decision-making, records management, and customer relationship management. New digital approaches continue to emerge in the business environment, prompting organizations to stay informed about trends in applying new and emerging information technologies. This paper reviews some of the most common information technology applications in the business world.
Decision Support Systems
According to Sauter (2011), decision support systems are digital information systems designed to help managers adapt to specific alternative solutions to a problem. It enables individuals to automate some of the processes followed to make decisions in a comprehensive, computer-based decision support system and quickly analyze a wide range of data. It helps organizations make decisions that contribute to increased market share, profitability, reduced costs, and better quality. The nature of the issue being resolved plays a leading role in the decision-making process, so it is essential to review all the aspects of the problem before applying the system. Organizations embrace decision support systems to create an interactive computer-based decision-making tool with organized data collection approaches, procedures, people, databases, software, devices, and telecommunications that can help decision-makers resolve semi-structured or unstructured problems.
Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization enables a website to appear at the top of the result list in a search engine for specific keywords. The most effective approach used in applying search engine optimization is focusing on the suitable keywords for a particular website. Optimizing a website based on search engine resources ensures that it is ideal for specific technical conditions (Lieberam-Schmidt, 2010). Optimization may be divided into two groups. The first group is the internal optimization of a selected website. The second one is the external optimization of a selected website. Internal optimization includes meta tags, website design, and keywords that match the website content. External optimization includes adding websites to the guides in a selected site and using links from other websites that have already been optimized to the related website.
Customer Relationship Management
Customer relationship management is the blend of strategies, technologies, and practices used in managing and analyzing customer relations and data throughout the customer management process to create good customer service connections and help the organization retain existing customers and increase sales (Monte, 2012). It compiles customer data from different sources or interactions between the company and the customer, incorporating the company’s communication channels.
Computer Integrated Manufacturing
Computer Integrated Manufacturing is the design used to integrate marketing, manufacturing, and engineering functions through information technologies. It includes incorporating all the business procedures from the supplier to the end consumer. It also includes integrating subsystems such as business planning, product design, monitoring systems, production process planning, and automation of controls and processes (Wang, 2018). Computer Integrated Manufacturing is also defined as a system incorporating software covering many business processes that integrate automated tasks and reporting operations on a factory floor through material and machine handling equipment software and sensors.CIM also covers planning modules to plan how resources are used in an organization and manage customer orders.
Supply Chain Management
According to Morana (2013), supply chain management is a set of individuals or organizations directly involved in the downstream and upstream flows of services, finances, products, and information from a supplier to a customer. The primary levels of the supply chain management process are direct, comprehensive, and final supply chain. The natural supply chain includes a central organization with only customers and suppliers, and the complete supply chain consists of immediate customers and suppliers. In contrast, the final supply chain includes all organizations collaborating in all the flows of services, products, information, and finance from the last supplier to the previous customer.
Conclusion
The application of information technology in the modern business environment has contributed to enhanced organizational performance and productivity. Therefore, organizations need to know the leading technologies that they can leverage. They should also understand the applications of every technology and the costs associated with its use to ensure that they do not incur any unnecessary expenses as they try to keep up with the technological changes affecting operations in the organization.

Detailed instructions for this assignment are below and in the Detailed Instructions and the Research Project Requirements sections, which describe the complete project.
Overview
Project Submission 1 requires you to select a title for your project, choose five IS-related solutions to conduct research during later modules, and build a three-page, ‘barebones’ template in the current APA style format. The template you create in this module will become a working document, and your final paper submission will be in Module 8.
The document that you submit for this project submission should consist of only the following:
Page 1: Title page with the page number in the upper right corner.
Page 2: Body of the Text Page with only the title of your paper centered in bold at the top and the list of your five IS-related solutions immediately followed by the centered word “Conclusion” in aggressive font. Note: The Conclusion section does NOT have a separate page.
Page 3: Reference List page with only “References” bolded and centered without quotation marks.
Title Page (Page 1): Page one of your ‘barebones’ template is a properly formatted APA style Title Page. The Title Page contains the title of your paper, centered, bolded, and in title case. The page number is placed at the upper right-side location. The page numbers will be included on every page in the same manner as presented on the title page.
Body of Text Page (Page 2): Page three of your template should contain the title of the paper, bold and centered, a list of the titles of the five IS-related solutions that you selected from the thirteen IS-related solutions provided below, and immediately followed by the centered word “Conclusion” in bold font in the Body of Text page.
Conclusion Section: Center the word “Conclusion” in bold font after the list of the five IS-related solutions you selected on the body of the text page. You will fill in the conclusion data when you finish composing the final draft of your document in the last research project assignment.
