Application of Theory in Nursing Administration and Management
Considerations for Nursing Organization Planning
As Joseph and the administrative team develop the nursing organization for the new community hospital, several key considerations must be addressed. First, they must ensure that the organizational structure aligns with the needs of the affluent patient population, emphasizing high-quality, patient-centered care. Such a strong and well-educated nursing staff, with numerous employees having their BSNs and even higher degrees, means that the organization should adopt evidence-based practice models to improve client outcomes (Flaubert et al., 2021): Application of Theory in Nursing Administration and Management.
Moreover, some of the policies and protocols that the team has to develop include personnel and staffing, work-process design, and interprofessional communication standards. It is also important to adhere to the various standardized rules of the Joint Commission as well as state board nursing rules. The organizational and technical infrastructures need to be developed to include technologies like electronic health records (EHRs) to enhance documentation and information exchange. Also, nurturing the aspects of the determined theoretical frameworks of the hospital, which is a nursing governance model-shared governance, can lead nurses to make decisions on their own, leading to satisfaction and a reduction in turnover rates (McKnight & Moore, 2022).
Priority Considerations in Planning the Organization
Given that the administration embodies transformational leadership, its primary focus will be on fostering a positive and innovative work environment. A crucial strategy includes creating a compelling vision for the ICU that aligns with the hospital’s mission and values. This vision should be effectively communicated to the nursing staff to inspire commitment and motivation (Ystaas et al., 2023). Another aspect concerning the product specialization of transformational leaders is the promotion of continual education, mentorship, and leadership training to enable nurses to improve their competency levels.
Further, cultural support must be fostered so that the nurses engage in the decision-making process and feel recognized and valued. The goals of systemizing evidence-based practice and pursuing quality improvement projects will improve patient safety and care. Lastly, transformational leaders are known to uphold and support staff welfare by fighting staff burnout by providing workload-balancing measures, staff health-enhancing programs, and open forums of communication (Khan et al., 2020). Thus, having a strong, acute, and receptive collective of employees is the key to eradicating inefficiencies and achieving sustained peak performance for the hospital in terms of the quality of the work delivered, patient care outcomes, and organizational profitability.
