I am currently in the Early Childhood Master’s program at Lehman College with a goal of becoming a second-grade public school teacher working in the Bronx. I lived in the Bronx and know firsthand what it means to be a part of this community. I also know the challenges that are involved. That has been my fuel for teaching, and I believe education is a great way to empower children to break barriers and achieve their dreams: Application for the Lehman College Foundation Scholarship.
I have always loved to teach. Since childhood, I have thrived on helping my classmates or volunteering at local community centers to help people. Though pursuing my graduate studies has been challenging, I have been dedicated to maintaining a good educational record. Through my coursework and personal responsibilities, I have learned resilience and how to manage time, skills I know will help me in class.
This scholarship will greatly ease financial difficulties and enable me to pay more attention to my studies and devote less time to part-time work. This would afford me the necessary resources, materials, and professional development that I will need to grow as an educator. This support will not only help me succeed in my studies but also give me the ability to provide the best learning environment for my future students.
My educational path has been shaped by unusual circumstances. Maintaining full-time requirements of graduate school while fulfilling familial duties has been taxing. Although some of it has been tough, I have gotten tougher, my resolve stronger, and committed more to my academic and career goals. I have learned how to manage myself and focus on my aspirations when faced with obstacles.
Overall, I am committed to helping and making a difference for children in my community. Not only would this scholarship support my own education, but it would also help me contribute further to the future of the Bronx.
