Admission Services- Personal Statement

The helping career opens helping professionals to multivariate possibilities and a further strengthened desire to oversee the wellness of others. Easier said than done, all actions implemented by helping professionals towards ensuring an individual’s well-being are often dictated by their intrinsic desires and passion for helping others. This is part of what maintains my passion for the physical therapy career. Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, helping others is what I have been known for across my circles of influence. Coming from a fairly large family, where communal living was the norm, I learned and embraced the essence of life improvement. This would be reflected in my desire to offer services to others. I would help my grandparents with their chores and was often labeled the helpful one. This encouraged me to continue helping others and ignited my passion and desire to help other people and the community at large.

Transitioning to college and migrating to the U.S. opened a new world for me and considerably widened my perspective on providing services to others. The knowledge I obtained from classes such as psychology, physiology, anatomy, sociology, and biology, other than paving the way for the physical therapy career, has also changed how I view people. The principles of interpersonal skills that I learned from these classes have bettered my interaction skills and have been helpful in my physical therapy career.

My employment years have also continued to shape my perspective on this career. Working at Glenshire skilled and rehabilitation facility and at an outpatient rehabilitation facility as a volunteer diversified my understanding of the need to provide excellent care and help persons with disability. My subsequent employment has continued to reinforce the need to help others and voice the concerns of the less fortunate members of society. All these paths have given me a better understanding of what is required to be an excellent physical therapist. They have influenced my decisions to continue pursuing this career and to help others live a high-quality and fulfilling life.
