Addressing the Impact of Behavioral Addiction on Major Life Areas- A Case Study Approach

Addiction is a condition whereby a person is unable to withdraw from using a substance or is unable to stop a behavior they are used to practicing. There are many substances that people worldwide are addicted to, but alcohol and drugs remain at the top, being the most abused substances. People addicted to alcohol heavily rely on drinking and cannot stay sober for an extended period. Accordingly, this may lead to personal difficulties for the client, life difficulties, and health complications.

According to my assessment and research, clients may experience difficulties that could start on a light note and become severe with time due to alcohol addiction. For instance, someone relying on drinking may experience short-term effects such as vomiting, headaches, and breathing difficulties. They may also experience long-term effects such as domestic violence, severe brain damage, liver disease and dangerous accidents, only to mention a few (Drugfreeworld.org., 2022). These health and social effects can lead to serious irreversible damage and even death. Get in touch with us at eminencepapers.com. We offer assignment help with high professionalism.

Furthermore, alcohol abuse affects not only the addict but also the people and community around them. For instance, when a parent drinks a lot, it greatly affects the child and spouse. It may lead to domestic violence or divorce over time. The children may face stress or depression and, as a result, be worried about their parent’s behavior and fail in school work and be less active. According to Hurcom et al. (2000), these children may express behaviors such as criminality, suicide attempts and hyperactivity. Consequently, addicts become poor in their area of work and less productive.

Lastly, alcohol addiction differs from drug abuse in several ways; for instance, alcohol is legal while drugs are illegal. The community may be okay with alcohol abuse because it is legal and disapprove of drug abuse since it is illegal even though both are harmful. Drug addiction can lead to accidental death, HIV infection, overdoses, and high blood pressure. In contrast, alcohol leads to depression, liver disease, brain damage and social effects (“Luxury Rehab Center for Drug & Alcohol in Florida | Beachside Rehab”, 2022).
