Academic Writing and Writing Skills

According to the S. E. E I.T. mode of paragraph formation, there are a couple of steps to follow for the perfect paragraph formation. S. E.E. I. T stands for State it, Elaborate, Example, illustrate, which is the order followed to form the perfect paragraph. This method allows for the clarification of writers’ ideas and eases the understanding of the reader.

The first step is “State It.” For the perfect paragraph formation, a paragraph begins with a topic sentence stating what is to be discussed in the paragraph. A topic sentence provides a clear idea of the main point of a paragraph. In contrast with my usual writing skills, this is a step I rarely follow in my rush to document my ideas before I forget some. The result is paragraphs that are unclear with jumbled ideas, which could have been avoided had I applied S. E. E I.T.

The next step is “Elaborate.” Elaborating involves expounding on the topic sentence already stipulated. For the writer to understand the flow of a paragraph, each following sentence explains the former. This flow promotes the formation of a perfect paragraph. With jumbled ideas lacking a topic sentence, it isn’t easy to elaborate on one idea to formulate a flow.

Accordingly, the next step is “Example.” After elaborating on the topic sentence, an example can be applied to help the reader understand what the writer is expressing. The example can either be a fact or an experience that supports the topic. Simultaneously, I sometimes write in a disorderly manner, and examples usually come at the end of the paragraph as expected. Subsequently, the next step is an illustration. Metaphors or comparative analogy is used to conclude the paragraph. I also fail to follow this step, as I fail to implement it as examples usually end my paragraphs rather than transitions. In conclusion, using the S. E. E I.T mode of paragraph formation allows for presenting of ideas with significant clarity. When a reader goes through the article, it will be clear what the piece is describing.

 Module 2 Discussion

This module, consider everything you’ve been assigned to read, study, and contemplate on the subject of academic writing and writing skills. Post, at least, one S.E.E.-I.T. paragraph that reflects upon the writing process you normally use in your own academic writing, and then compare what you normally do with the steps you just followed in drafting your first writing assignment. In your response, include the steps (that you’ve formerly used) that you will still continue to engage in, as well as those that didn’t benefit you. Which of the newer “steps” or methods have benefitted you the most?

Be sure to study the S.E.E.-I.T. model of paragraph building to understand what your instructor’s expectations are on the minimum number of complete sentences (and what kind/purpose). Then, be sure to use the S.E.E.-I.T. model of paragraph-building to construct the paragraph(s) in your response.

In addition to your own initial post, which should conform to the instructor’s directions, using the S.E.E.-I.T. method for all paragraphs, you should also respond to, at least, two other fellow students’ initial responses. This writing assignment will be considered incomplete (i.e., “zero”) unless you have (1.) your own acceptable initial answer/response to your assigned Homework question,
